Black Stone of Cybele (Mother Goddess)

The black stone of Cybele standing at the big yard between Haremlik and Selamlık houses, is one of the biggest and a typical stone founded in Ürgüp. It can be found lots of old Ürgüp houses and caves, a carryover from pegan days of Anatolia.It is the symbol of mother goddess of Phrygian(12th century BC -275 BC) Cybele. The black stone of Cybele has trasferred to Rome and added to Rome's pantheon Gods. In ancient times, the polished side of the stone was placed up towards the sun as it is today and reflect the light of Cybele and heavens.
